Some buds on the rose bushes

Some buds on the rose bushes
are barely visible, tiny, hidden
between thorns and leaves.
Some, fully blossomed, attract
our vision~ their fragrance, our
noses and our wandering thoughts.

The ones between appeal only
to the bees and butterflies,
and to careful gardeners with
pruning shears.  My mother wore
white gloves when she "cut up"
the rose bushes~ and a wide-brimmed
hat, and a scarf wrapped round her neck.
